This will be an overview of what to expect as a participant of FAPI. We will discuss the process and schedule of becoming a film apprentice. Payment for the Set Protocol class will be expected at this time: cash, check or PayPal. For the remainder of classes payment must be received before each class - no later than the day of the class during registration.

Capture the Moving Picture Industry

The growth of the New Mexico film industry is part of a larger movement of production “outsourcing” that is taking productions out of their traditional California home and distributing it across the US (and the world). Learn about what’s behind these trends, and the rewards and risks associated with becoming a film professional during these times. You’ll also learn the difference between social and career networking on sites such as Facebook and Twitter, critical social networking and resume do’s and don’ts, and how to use a wide variety of online resources to further your film career.
Pump Your Potential

Course fee: $100.00. This is not your typical résumé class. While the general rules remain the same, students will be given individual attention to create a résumé that is both industrially and experientially appropriate. The instructor will provide ongoing support for composition and editing advice, even after the class has concluded, for a period of one year. Students will also learn how to write a cover letter for a targeted audience.
Cinematography Basics: Lights, Camera, Action!

Course fee: $325.00 FAPI apprentices are in the perfect place at the perfect time. This class is held in a working motion picture studio located right in the heart of Albuquerque, this class presents a number of realistic production simulations that give students the feeling of what it's like to work on a feature film or television program. Participants receive insights into the features of the latest camcorders and location sound equipment as they learn the roles and responsibilities of professional film technicians.
Prerequisite: Set Protocol, Set Safety, 1st Aid/CPR, and Film History. Location: Rio Grande StudiosField Production Course

Students will be trained to operate the Panasonic DVX 100A/B video camera, learn basic composition concepts, use field light kits for 3 Point Lighting, do pre-production planning via storyboarding and scripting tools and techniques. The post- production session covers editing with Imovie, a user friendly Macintosh video editing program. Cash, check and PayPal are the only acceptable forms of payment.
Pro Tools Class

Course fee: $275.00. Pro Tools is the industry standard program used for various audio applications. The program can be used for creating music, voiceover, radio spots, and sound effects as well as mixing and mastering. It has been the proven standard for recording studios for a number of years and now we are bringing it directly to you! This class will get any student familiar with the program or not, up to speed on the basics of Pro Tools. The class runs two days. Class projects will be due for test out. Cash, check and PayPal are the only acceptable forms of payment. Final Cut and Pro Tools is a prerequisite.
Final Cut Pro 100 – Basic Final Cut Pro

Course fee: $275.00. This course gives a basic introduction to the Final Cut Pro interface, file management, basic editing tools, and capturing and exporting video and audio. Students will be introduced to the basic editing vocabulary and functions necessary to get started using the Final Cut Pro. The course is split into two days to assist with student retention rate of information and to review concepts covered the first day. Cash, check and PayPal are the only acceptable forms of payment. (Only 4 apprentices per class).
Motion 101

Course fee: $275.00. Apple Motion is Final Cut Studio's application designed for people who want to add professional motion graphics, titles, DVD menu items, and other visuals to their video and DVD projects. Motion is simple enough that beginners can jump right in, and advanced enough that professionals will continue to learn as they use the application more and more. This class will cover the basics of Motion and build a solid foundation on familiarity of the workflow in order to build more professional projects. The course will be taught over 10 hours. (6 hours the first day, and 4 hours the second day), most likely spread out over two days. Class projects will be due prior to test out. Cash, check and PayPal are the only acceptable forms of payment. Final Cut Pro class is a prerequisite.
Studio Production Course

Course fee: $150.00. Individuals are trained on a Live Studio Production at Quote-Unquote, Inc. Studios for local access Channels 26 & Channel 27. Students will learn how to use cameras, overhead lighting, work with a video switchboard, and an audio board. Students will also learn about pre-production planning, and about the different crew positions used for television productions. The last two classes are live 30 minute studio productions. This show is entitled "City Views". "City Views" is hosted by staff and crewed by the students to give them experience and confidence. Cash, check and PayPal are the only acceptable forms of payment.
Pre-Production Management for Film, Television & Digital Media

Class fee: $450.00 (includes all four sessions). At The Spirit Compound, in Santa Fe, NM, esteemed educator and owner of Muir Studios will deliver this four-day Seminar. After successfully completing all four sessions and projects, each student should have acquired a basic understanding of script breakdown, budget development and the use of selected industry tools. 22 hours total instruction over two consecutive weekends. REDTM Camera Overview Class

Course fee: $380.00. This two-day course will introduce students to the revolutionary REDTM camera system and all of its peripheral equipment. Students will learn the duties and procedures of a camera assistant and DIT working on a feature film, documentary, commercial, or music video.
Students will receive hands-on, technical training in the handling, assembly, and operation of motion-picture grade camera equipment. They will also receive training in best practices for data management on set, as well as comprehensive skills in troubleshooting the REDTM in a fast-paced production environment. Additionally, the class will address preliminary post-production issues associated with shooting on the REDTM and provide an overview of the post-production path, which is invaluable to professionals in the camera department. The class is ideal for second assistants and camera PA’s who want to advance within the camera department, as well as seasoned professionals who would like to be introduced to the REDTM camera system.
