How does the Film Apprenticeship program work?

For Individuals with NO prior experience in film: The application is a standard form and a letter of recommendation. After approval, they will begin their training with classes in Set Protocol & Safety. This class will be taught by an experienced professional working within the film industry. After Set Protocol & Safety, the apprentice will complete a class on procedural processes about their chosen field, example Grip. After the successful completion of training, apprentices will begin their on-the-job training on set, guided by mentors in their chosen field who also work on the set. The total training time for this scenario is 1040 hours of classroom training, and on-the-job training.

Individuals who have completed other film training programs: FAPI will accept 10% of graduates from each higher education or vocational training program around the state. Each program will be allowed to submit 10% of their graduating class to FAPI. Each person applying from a higher education or vocational training program will fill out the standard application, with a letter of recommendation from the instructor of the program. They will have to send a copy of the program classes completed. They will then begin their on-the-job training on set, guided by mentors in their chosen field who also work on the set.

Individuals with prior film experience: Individuals who have already worked in film but are interested in exploring a different area of the business or expanding their skills may apply for film training with FAPI. Each person applying with these criteria will submit an application, letter of recommendation, letter of interest, and proof of completed classes for safety. After approval, they will begin their training classes. After the successful completion of training within the classroom setting, they will begin their on-the-job training on set, guided by a mentor in their newly chosen field.
